Chick-Fil-A’s Coals of Fire

Tolerance Trumps

After finishing my meal last night at Chick-fil-A with my family, we had a chance to talk with the owner’s wife. She told us some of the facts about how much food they had gone through and how they were running all over the place trying to get more food to feed the people that were coming to support them. Sitting across from me was Steve, our social media manager at Creation Today. He had been there earlier during the lunch rush, if you can even call it a rush. When the line stays out the door all day long, is there really one part of the day that you can call a rush? Anyway, while he was there for lunch, he saw that someone was protesting in a unique way outside Chick-fil-A. They wore a cow costume and brandished a sign that read “God hates fags.” We asked her how corporate policy advised them to handle the protester and she replied that they simply were going to love them. She told us that they had gone out and offered free food and water to the person protesting.

It reminded me of that passage in Proverbs 25: 21 – 22.

21. If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

22. For thou shalt Heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

Later I discovered that many Chick-fil-A’s around the country had done the exact same thing with their protesters. After the owner’s wife left, Steve told me that many people that were there to support Chick-fil-A were yelling at the protester. I couldn’t help but think of the irony there. We are going to stand in line to support a company which is tolerant of those that oppose it, while at the same time, we are not tolerant of those that oppose them.

To be honest, I have had very little time over the past few days to read what happened with Chick-fil-A and why there is such an uprising to support them. Today I ran across a blog from a friend of mine who works for Answers in Genesis and I felt as though his blog summed up the story and the arguments very simply. Please take a minute to go to his website and read the complete blog. Thank you, Tim, for putting this so well and simply

Chick-fil-A and the Intolerance of the “Tolerant”

Here is a portion of Tim Chaffey’s Blog:

There is currently a petition from a student group at the University of South Dakota seeking to ban Chick-Fil-A from opening a store there (for which they already have a contract in place). I don’t have a problem with someone voicing their opinions, but consider the absolute hypocrisy from the student who started the petition. He said, “Universities should be beacons of tolerance. The official policy is not to discriminate. We feel official actions to the contrary only give lip service to the stated policy.”

Did you catch that? Universities should be “beacons of tolerance” and “the official policy is not to discriminate.” But apparently it is just fine to be intolerant of and discriminate against Christians. So much for tolerance and anti-discrimination.

Please go and read the entire blog here. http://midwestapologetics.org/blog/?p=908 You will find it very insightful.

May our Lord Jesus Christ be with you today and every day.
