It is just this simple.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: Genesis 1:26

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:27

God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. Genesis 5:1-2

For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. Psalms 8:5

There, that clears it up! Humans are not animals and all human life matters to God!
