Ironically, it was through a Twitter conversation with some atheists that I discovered the man who would eventually become both my mentor and my friend…
Born and raised in Ontario Canada, Sye Ten Bruggencate grew up in a loving Christian home with parents who had immigrated from the Netherlands. Working as an engineer in the automotive industry, Sye looked for ways to share his faith with those around him. Through the debates and lectures of the late Dr. Greg Bahnsen, Sye was introduced to presuppositional apologetics and began applying the principles he had learned to his evangelistic outreach. In 2006 he built a website called Proof That God Exists.
When I heard some atheists making fun of Sye’s website, instinctively I wanted to check it out. Since these were the same folks who loved to poke fun at Ray Comfort, Ken Ham, myself, and other creationists, I was curious to see why they were picking on this guy’s website. What I discovered completely blew my mind! Using a series of simple questions, the website exposed the truth about absolutes in a way that was ridiculously profound!
Over the next few years, our friendship grew as we spent many hours in phone conversations, interviews and debates. When the atheists announced their plans for hosting “The Reason Rally” in Washington DC, Sye and I decided to attend so we could meet and converse with our skeptic friends. Incredibly, just by asking a few simple questions, we were able to get to the heart of their belief system and expose their presuppositions.
In October of 2012, Sye was one of the speakers at our Proof of God Conference. The following year Crown Rights Media published his first film, “How to Answer the Fool.” This year the film was posted for free viewing on YouTube to commemorate the movie’s 5th anniversary—April 1, 2018! Today, Sye still engages unbelievers with the Gospel, but his primary focus is equipping other Christians to defend their faith in the God that they know exists.
