Each year I try to plan one special trip with each of my children while I’m traveling and speaking around the country. Two weeks ago it was Jordan’s turn so we headed for Newnan, GA, a city located within Metro Atlanta. Since his favorite restaurant is Chick-Fil-A, this trip was extra special as we were treated to a personal tour of their headquarters by a few members of Northside Baptist Church who work there. By the way, if you’ve never had a chance to eat at Chick-Fil-A, you have really missed out! And if you’ve never had an opportunity to observe their excellence in business, I encourage you to check out the leadership, training, and excellence that CFA employees bring to every job they do.
Jordan and I were both encouraged and challenged by the motto which Chick-Fil-A founder, Truett Cathy, placed on a plaque outside the headquarters:
“To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us.
To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick Fil A.”
Just being at the HQ was absolutely inspiring! I couldn’t help but pump our guides with questions about their business model and how they accomplish all that they do. Internally, I pondered our work with various Creation Ministries around the globe and considered new ways to equip and inspire our partners to reach greater heights with more services like Creation Events, Search Creation, and Visit Creation. All of these tools were designed with the desire to assist other Creation Ministries in bringing truth to a world which desperately needs it.
As our weekend progressed it was a real blessing to serve alongside the leadership of Northside Baptist Church during the Worldview Conference set up by high school teacher Chris Flournoy. His passion for Creation Apologetics brought him to our first-ever Creation Bootcamp back in 2005 as well as the Proof of God Conference in 2012. Desiring to equip the church with the tools they need to defend the faith led Chris and Pastor Brian to plan and prepare for this conference. With all the science experiments, informational talks, and quality time spent with each other, this weekend was an absolute blast and a huge success for the kingdom of God. People left every night challenged and better equipped to defend their faith in the Word of God.
To top it all off, my son Jordan and I were blessed to enjoy some incredible bonding time over this extended weekend. From instructing him Biblically as we spent time together in the car, to showing him what hard work is like at Chick Fil A, and ministering together at Northside Baptist Church, it didn’t take long for Jordan to realize that while traveling and speaking is fun, it can also be incredibly tiring!
I sure pray that at the end of my life I will have focused more on my family than on the rest of the world. God has given me responsibility over them but I am so blessed to be able to use my time to influence others as well. Thanks to all of you who partner with us and make these events possible. I can’t wait to see what God is going to do with each of us!
