What does Jesus mean comparing Himself to a worm in His Crucifixion Psalm, when He is the God of the universe? The answer lies in what “kind” of worm this is. The Psalm 22 “worm” is the tola’ath worm-a specific worm that beautifully reveals a picture of Jesus’ willing, sacrificial death to birth a family, the Family of God. The crimson worm willingly crawls on a tree to lay her eggs. As the young hatch, they are stained with the red fluid of the mother worm as she dies for them.
