A Twitter Conversation

By |2014-09-23T15:35:54+00:00September 3rd, 2011|Blog|

Okay, I am not really great at using Twitter, but I had an interesting conversation this past Friday with a young lady named Paula that I thought I should share with you. It all started when I stated that “faith” is a foundation for reasoning, not the end of it. Well, don’t ever try to tell an atheist that statement unless you are ready for a tongue lashing; or in this case a twitter attack. Yes, I was up late and my wife wished I was in bed! Perhaps this will help someone else.

erichovind
Faith is always the foundation of reasoning, not the end of it. I have faith in God, others have faith in themselves.

Nerdista
@erichovind The difference isn’t that we don’t start with god, it’s that we start and end with FACTS.
8/30/11 4:25 PM
erichovind
@Nerdista “Facts” must be “True” so you do believe in absolute truth! Remember you can’t have absolute truth without an absolute God!
9/1/11 2:44 PM
Nerdista
@erichovind That’s just not true either. I don’t “believe” anything. I accept scientific fact/evidence.
9/1/11 3:03 PM
erichovind
@Nerdista do you believe that those facts are true? Once again, you find yourself believing in absolutes and we know where those come from.
9/2/11 8:38 PM
Nerdista
@erichovind I’m not sure you read my answer, I “believe” nothing. I accept science as verifiable.
9/2/11 10:09 PM
Nerdista
@erichovind And again, absolutes don’t come from anything. There are no absolute truths.
9/2/11 10:12 PM
erichovind
@Nerdista That’s right just keep telling yourself that, “There Are No Absolutes, There Are No Absolutes”. Except of course for that one!
9/2/11 10:32 PM
Nerdista
@erichovind See, all the arguments in my arsenal have proof. You have myths and judgmental opinions.
9/2/11 10:47 PM
erichovind
@Nerdista Do your arguments “Prove” that something is “True”?
9/2/11 11:11 PM
benfromcanada
“@erichovind: @Nerdista Do your arguments “Prove” that something is “True”?” They can. And her’s do.
9/3/11 12:21 AM
erichovind
@benfromcanada Ah but @nerdista doesn’t believe in absolute truth! RT:”There are no absolute truths.”
9/3/11 1:44 AM
benfromcanada
@erichovind @nerdista truth doesn’t need to be “absolute” to be true.
9/3/11 1:45 AM
erichovind
@benfromcanada Please tweet that again and say it over and over! That is so funny! “Truth doesn’t need to be “absolute” LOL
9/3/11 1:56 AM
benfromcanada
@erichovind almost as funny as “evolution is a religious idea”?
9/3/11 1:58 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind @benfromcanada @nerdista Why would anyone need absolute truths? Insecurity? In order to judge people?
9/3/11 2:04 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista If there is no absolute truth then we are both right and you would have nothing negative to say about another’s beliefs!
9/3/11 2:06 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind Your beliefs are fine, keep them out of my laws and science classrooms.
9/3/11 2:12 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista Speaking of Laws and Science, How do you account for laws of logic and science? Where do they come from? Why don’t they change?
9/3/11 2:15 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind What? Science changes, I’m unaware of logic laws…
9/3/11 2:17 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista Our understanding changes, the “LAWS” of science don’t! Yes I am aware you don’t know logic laws. “There are no absolute truths.”
9/3/11 2:20 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind Science results come from methodical testing that can be reproduced.
9/3/11 2:20 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind There’s no need for you to be a jerk, that makes jesus cry.
9/3/11 2:21 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind I’m not sure you know what a scientific law is defined as.
9/3/11 2:21 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind And when you repeat one of my statements over and over it just makes it seem like you have no arguments left.
9/3/11 2:22 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista Those tests depend on the uniformity of nature, (laws don’t change). Why are the laws unchanging? Maybe from an”UNCHANGING GOD?”
9/3/11 2:23 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista Is anything that you are tweeting “true” Or just randomness? If it is true you are using my world view to try to argue against it.
9/3/11 2:25 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind They are my opinions. It is true that there is gravity.
9/3/11 2:26 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista But you said that there is no truth. Now you say that there is????
9/3/11 2:27 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind God changes all the time, you are an atheist to many gods, Zeuss, Xerxes, Mercury…god is never constant.
9/3/11 2:27 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista I am talking about the God of the Bible. He never changes. Those others you listed are not the real God, they are idols.
9/3/11 2:29 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind How would anyone before jesus know that?
9/3/11 2:31 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind I said no “absolute” truth. There are scientific truths that explain the world.
9/3/11 2:32 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista Do those scientific truths change or are they unchanging? If they change, how and why do they change?
9/3/11 2:33 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista BTW: “Truth” by very definition is “Absolute”.
9/3/11 2:35 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind That’s right, just keep telling yourself that.
9/3/11 2:37 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista ?? Just keep telling my self that “Truth” is by very nature “Absolute”? Ok, but am I “wrong”? Do I not know the “Truth”?
9/3/11 2:38 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind You’re spiraling into nonsense. Thanks for your time!
9/3/11 2:43 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista Can I pray for you? Also check out www.ProofThatGodExists.org
9/3/11 2:44 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind No and no, but thanks!
9/3/11 2:46 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista I can’t pray for you? Your obvious belief in God is shining through that “atheist” facade!
9/3/11 2:52 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind If that makes you feel better. I’m happier now than I ever was as a Christian.
9/3/11 2:55 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista I am sorry, but you were never a Christian. You should watch this. http://t.co/LW9rb1j
9/3/11 2:58 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista So, why won’t you answer the question? Am I WRONG? Looks to me like you don’t want to worship God b/c you are into yourself.
9/3/11 3:01 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind What question?
9/3/11 3:02 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista Am I wrong?
9/3/11 3:03 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind And god is not real, he helps no one, and I am into myself. I’m rad and science is more fulfilling.
9/3/11 3:03 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind And you’re really judgmental, it’s very rude to say I was never a christian. People like you are why I’m not,
9/3/11 3:04 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista Are you Judging me?
9/3/11 3:06 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista I pray that you will choose to repent of your sin and trust in Christ as your Savior. You need to stop suppressing what you know.
9/3/11 3:07 AM
benfromcanada
@erichovind @nerdista again, truth is truth. If you mean “absolute” to mean “objective” then that’s real&revealed by science.
9/3/11 3:09 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind I think you’re rude, but since I don’t believe in hell I don’t pretend you’re going there.
9/3/11 3:10 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind Knock yourself out, it won’t work. It’s a coping mechanism, I’ll continue to live in reality.
9/3/11 3:11 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista Is it “wrong” to be rude? Are you judging me? Come on be a sport. I am trying to show you the problems with your Worldview.
9/3/11 3:13 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista So, do you think I am wrong?
9/3/11 3:23 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind Yes.
9/3/11 3:28 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind My world view is based on logic. Not belief or gut instinct.
9/3/11 3:29 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista what is that logic based on? Can logic change or is it absolute? Logical laws are a reflection of the way God thinks.
9/3/11 3:31 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind you demean my past faith because you’re insecure in your present faith. You need to feel superior to me.
9/3/11 3:31 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista to say I am wrong means that you are judging me and that you believe you have the “truth”, something you said doesn’t exist.
9/3/11 3:31 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind You have no proof for that. I’m fine with logic coming from man. I don’t need a myth to explain things.
9/3/11 3:32 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista You have it all wrong there, I have 100% trust in God as He is the only one that can account for absolute, unchanging laws.
9/3/11 3:33 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind Again, you’re not listening. An absolute truth doesn’t. The scientific truth of nature is real. That’s what I accept.
9/3/11 3:33 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista If logic came from man, did the laws of logic exist before man got here?
9/3/11 3:33 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind AND, I’m not judging you. I don’t think I’m superior or have any great truth. I accept science and want that in classrooms.
9/3/11 3:34 AM
Nerdista
@erichovind I don’t know, but that doesn’t scare me. I don’t need a myth to explain what science hasn’t yet.
9/3/11 3:35 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista I don’t have a myth, you do! The fact that your worldview is in shambles should scare you because you don’t have the truth.
9/3/11 3:38 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista Yes you are judging me. To say I am “Wrong” means you know what is “Right” and are “Judging” “Truth”. Tough words to say I know.
9/3/11 3:40 AM
erichovind
@Nerdista almost 4:00 am here, I need to go to bed. I will pray for you. We have lots of info at www.CreationToday.org as well.
