As the scent of “Pumpkin Spice” everything fills the air, don’t forget to stock up on your tracts! October is the perfect month for evangelism because it affords so many opportunities to engage people in your community. Here are some of our favorites ideas:

  • Pass out tracts at a Fall Festival.
  • Set up a booth at the Fair.
  • Engage another customer at the coffee shop while sipping your pumpkin spice latte.
  • Hand out tracts during a hayride.
  • Put tracts in candy bags to give out when children come knocking on your door!

Luther-Nailed-ItAre you uncomfortable handing out tracts or engaging in evangelism? Remember that October is also Reformation month! This year, on October 31st, Christians all over the globe will celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

As the year 1517 drew to a close, the entire world appeared to be consumed by darkness. It wasn’t a literal, physical darkness but a spiritual one which affected every aspect of humanity: socially, economically, medically, scientifically, and ecclesiastically. One October evening, with a piece of paper in one hand and a hammer in the other, a young monk named Martin Luther set off a powder keg when he nailed his 95 theses to the door of the castle church in Wittenberg, Germany. Life hasn’t been the same since.

How could a simple piece of paper launch a Reformation? How could the words of an obscure monk spread like wildfire around the globe? How could a simple act of courage shake the entire world for generations to come?

“God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise,
and the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty…
that no flesh should glory in His presence.” –1 Corinthians 1:27, 29

Martin Luther didn’t intend to start a Reformation. He just had questions that needed to be answered. Yet God used that man and his words to light a spark that would spread throughout the world, kindling truth in the hearts of many for generations to come. Today, He continues to use simple things to draw people to Himself. A piece of paper with a Gospel message can have an eternal impact on many, many souls.

This month, as we celebrate the Protestant Reformation and Evangelism month, make sure you are well-stocked with great tracts. Look for opportunities to use them and pray that God will prepare the hearts of those who receive these little paper missionaries.
